FS#7351 - [EN] Elegon Issues
[LOW] - The Celestial Protector spawns in the center of the boss’s hitbox and patrols downward out of the air in a jerky manner. It should probably either spawn on the floor or move from the air to the floor more smoothly, no real difference in functionality. - obsolete
[[MEDIUM] - Grasping Energy Tendrils does not draw players in towards the boss, although it does do damage. When Grasping Energy Tendrils is cast, it should draw all players in to the boss similar to a mass Death Grip effect as it damages them. - obsolete
[MEDIUM] - EDIT: As comments point out this functionality is dubious as live behavior contradicts the plain reading of the spell’s tooltip. Further research from the time period may be necessary. For now let’s just assume this isn’t a bug I guess. Text kept here for reference purposes. - not bug
If Elegon’s aggro target is out of range, he will immediately cast Grasping Energy Tendrils. Grasping Energy Tendrils should only fire off if Elegon has no targets in melee range at all, not just his current aggro target. If Elegon’s current target is out of range, he should melee attack any nearby players, typically melee dps. Only when there are no nearby targets at all should Elegon cast Grasping Energy Tendrils in order to get his aggro target back into range.
[HIGH] - The Celestial Protector’s main ability, Total Annihilation, does nothing when the cast is finished. This ability should deal 200,000 arcane damage to the raid when the add finishes casting it and dies. Possible that the add is dying before the spell actually goes out. - fixed
[HIGH] - In Phase 4 (the final phase), Radiating Energies appear to damage the raid less often than retail. Compare Melchior’s video to the Fatboss POV. Radiating Energies should tick every 0.5 seconds. - fixed

Work after restart.
Also, can perform insane fps drops on any kind of pc, kind of same like back in ds25hc, the warlord zonozz encounters black phase, there were also big fps problems, maybe its the same kind of problem.
+1
I never understood these things, the Grasping Energy Tendrils spell description clearly explains how it should work...
@Webby: Tehát ha nincs melee rangeben senki (nem a main aggro targetet írja) akkor BERÁNT mindenkit magához és sebez.
edit.: u cant trust the tooltip, nice job blizzard
I had no such problems, how can you reproduce this effect?
In 25 man, the last phase destroys your fps.
Mahourai-Tauri:
Use bloodlust, stormlash totem and healing tide totem at the same time. Guaranteed fps drop.
Grasping Energy Tendrils worked perfectly on PTR, something happened
Celestial Protector
- Exacly as Mahourai wrote, the Celestial Protector dies before the explosion → no explosion https://youtu.be/QUowdy9RVMg?t=5m20s
- The Celestial Protector’s spawn locations are correct (tested it multiple times on PTR and Live), they’re always outside the inner ring (the ~25 yard one below elegon). The problem is, that the Protector stucks if they hit a pet. PROOF: https://youtu.be/QUowdy9RVMg?t=35s → there are 2 pets right in Elegons hitbox, a hunter pet and a xuen → the Protector appeared in Elegon. https://youtu.be/QUowdy9RVMg?t=4m35s → there is no pet in the hitbox, the Peotector reaches its destination and spawns correctly at the edge of the room (maybe too far but idk).
FPS DROP
That’s a common problem, even on Retail. Maybe something is wrong with the visual effects in the hole under Elegon. Well, I have no idea how to fix this problem by scripting, but I know how to solve it easily: “Turn up Shadows”, set Shadow Detail to High and u’ll have constant FPS. Thanks. Its definetly the platform/hole, when doing the phase when the conductors are up, have no problem at all, but when entering the bosses platform again, its starts to eat up the whole pc again, and i had shadows turned down, will check it whith higher shadows. but 1 more thing: the link mentioned that this was an 5.2 problem, and fix will be coming with 5.3, and now tauri is on 5.4.8, so the spoken fix never came, or it did, and something is wrong with this client? Hope the shadow method will work...
I wasn’t saying the spawn location was incorrect, just that it patrols down out of the sky without animating, i.e. it looks like it is “skipping” to the floor. It would actually look better (and be functionally no different) if it spawned on the floor, although obviously the best option visually would be if it patrolled down out of the sky more fluidly as it did on live.
EDIT:
FPS drop issue is a retail bug that was never solved, as the comments have pointed out.
As I wrote before, it seems that the pets intercept the Protectors, that’s why they appear in the sky. Check my video again, @ 4:35 it spawns correctly (blue marker on the ground, little falling star, etc.). But your idea to force them to spawn directly on the floor is good.
Sry, but your 4th point is bullshit. The electric circle below the boss and outside the glass platform is Radiating Energies (http://mop-shoot.tauri.hu/?spell=118313), it deals periodically 17.500 Arcande dmg inside and 50.000 Arcane dmg outside. So..nothing prevents you from reseting the stacks. Check this: https://youtu.be/Cuiudb_ri_k?t=7m25s 190k/0.5 sec would be mythic + or something like that.
5th*
An alternative possible explanation from the video you linked is that Radiating Energy frequency is far too low. The multiple rapid 50k ticks the POV player takes when moving outside are moderately dangerous, and would explain why (for example) no one resets their stacks on progression heroic kills. Even the normal video mentions how dangerous going outside is while I had absolutely no threatening incoming damage and reset my stacks numerous times.
EDIT:
Think this is it, you don’t spend a lot of time in the final phase in your video but just eyeballing it no one in your raid takes damage anywhere near as often from Radiating Energies as the fatboss POV.
Oh yeah... 5th, thanks.
Mahourai, I guess you’re right with the frequency thing. I got a tick ~ every 2 sec, but the guy in tje fatboss video got a tick ~ every 1 sec. + don’t ignore the fact that our priest was disc, his shields absorbed most of the ticks.
It’s even faster than that as far as I can tell. Played at 1/4th speed from 7:37 to 7:38 I see 2 new damage events that can only be from Radiating Energies on the POV player, so about every half a second or less. Again, should be relatively easy to check the frequency since the modern version of the encounter will have the same tick rate.

from retail on 25 HC
it ticks twice per second
Csak nehogy úgy sikerüljön “fixelni”, mint Firelands elején Ragnarost, aztán kilóméterekről lehessen tankolni a bosst...

So, we just tested this shit, and as soon as the paladin taunted the boss from me we got gripped into the middle, even though I was under the boss. So your 3rd point is not a bug it seems like.
I’m not certain if that means the tooltip is wrong or if the spell/boss is somehow behaving differently on live than Pandaria. For now we’ll assume the retail version is correct. Information from Asgaard on tickrate added to the initial post.
If you think about it, it makes sense. This way the tank can’t stand on the edge of the platform and tank the boss there. Which would make the stack resetting easy.
Either way the tank wouldn’t be able to stand on the edge. The way I remember it, and the commonsense reading of the tooltip, is that if the main aggro target is out of melee range, Elegon will then begin to attack other nearby targets, and only cast Grasping Energy Tendrils if there are no nearby targets to autoattack. Moving away would then get your melee DPS killed, or have Elegon start attacking the OT if he is nearby.
There is no real reason for the tooltip to mention targets, plural, unless it works as I’m describing here.
The way we tried it was: I was standing under the boss, it was hitting me, then the Paladin taunted it as he was standing outside the inner circle. As soon as he taunted, the boss gripped us into the middle. I didn’t think about it then, but maybe it was because elegon is forced to target the player who taunted him (because the way taunting works), and he couldn’t switch to the next target in melee range, causing the Grasping Energy Tendrils to be casted.
Both of my chars have ID now, but someone could test it:
Have someone stand under the boss, while the main target runs out from the middle while tanking the boss. If it switches targets without gripping you into the middle than it works as Mahourai-Tauri described.
